We understand by veil to all that piece of fabric that is used in some way to cover a part or the whole of the person's face. The idea of veil is normally associated with the woman, but many current and ancient cultures allowed man to also wear a veil mainly for a matter of protection of the face before the inclement weather weather. The veil is one of the pieces of clothing most controversial in history since while it contributes to giving sensuality and mystery to women, it is also understood as an oppressive object on the dignity of the woman.
The veil is normally seen as an accessory rather than a garment. It is a portion or scrap of fabric that in most cases is light and fresh. It is usually placed on some part of the face, covering in most cases the lower section of the face. In other cases, the veil may cover the entire face and fall from the top of the head, as seen with the veils that make up wedding dresses. Finally, other veils are part of the same clothing that is folded and arranged over the face. In any of the three cases, the veil serves two main functions: first, to protect the face from the weather inhospitable that can be generated in desert areas, with lots of sun and sandstorms (that is why the veil is common in Medio East). The second reason why it is used is to cover those parts of the body that some cultures such as Islam consider it imprudent to leave in view, especially the mouth and part of the face.
feminine.Although the veil is a characteristic element of the idiosyncrasy of certain cultures, West sees it and assimilates it as an element of oppression that men generate on women and that represents, in other words, the domination and the very deep patriarchal structure of the cultures of the Middle East and Islam.
