In the years before the death of the dictator Francisco Franco different groups of opposition to the Franco regime arose. Unions, university associations, Marxist groups, progressive Christians and separatist groups were consolidated. All of them were in hiding and in their different spheres of action expressed their rejection of the totalitarianism Francoist. In this context, some far-right terrorist groups were formed and, among them, were the Guerrilleros de Cristo Rey.
The main objective of this organization was to counteract the different anti-Franco groups.
Fascist ideology terrorism
Guerrilleros de Cristo Rey was a terrorist organization with a marked ideology neo-fascist. During the years of the Spanish Transition, its members carried out all kinds of violent actions, such as assassinations, beatings, launch explosives, telephone intimidation, attacks on premises, etc.
Bookstores and media communication were some of his preferred targets.
His battle cry, "Long live Christ the King!", Recalled the slogans used by medieval crusaders who fought Islam. One of his most common violent actions consisted of breaking into some "enemy" premises and force the assistants to sing "Cara al sol", one of the most representative hymns of the Francoists.
While there is not enough documentation on this organization, it is believed that its founder was a former member of the Division Azul (the soldiers who were sent by Franco to the Soviet front to support the Nazi regime during WWII World).
Like other terrorist groups with similar characteristics, Guerrilleros de Cristo Rey opposed the democracy in Spain and defended the principles of Francoism. In this sense, his enemies were many: communists, revolutionary university students, priests opposed to the official church, leftist terrorists, separatists ...
In different historical investigations it is argued that this group had the support of the state during the first years of the Transition.
Its members considered themselves patriots who defended themselves from provocations
Every terrorist organization has ideals and enemies. However, in a state of right and in a country democratic their procedures they cannot be accepted.
Those who were part of this organization saw themselves as patriots who were forced to defend themselves against "destabilizing" groups.
Its main adversaries were the different terrorist gangs inspired by a Marxist and nationalist ideology (GRAPO, FRAP, ETA ...).
