In an era where everything is digital and especially communications, voice conversations could not be left behind. margin, nor the main communications protocol, used in Internet. That is why, from the union of both, the
VoIP, a technology consisting of transmitting voice using the same protocols used for communications on the Internet.
There are many communication protocols but, without a doubt, the most widely used are those that lay the foundations of the Internet and make the network of networks functional.
This does not mean that VoIP is something exclusive to the Internet, and that to use this technology we have to have Internet access, since
We can use VoIP in private networks, which work in parallel to the Internet and disconnected from it,
although they may have gateways that allow access. When we are talking about voice over IP protocol, we refer to the technology used for the transport, not to the network on which it is done.
This technology consists of dividing the information (in this case, the voice) into small parts, which are sent separately to the destination and, once there, it is recomposed.
This leads to the need for a high reliability of the network to be able to broadcast fast enough as long as the voice does not suffer losses and cuts, something that cannot be guarantee in a public network such as the Internet, with the exceptions that a certain bandwidth is reserved for its use for VoIP (something that, depending on how, can be prohibited by code legal status of some countries for breaking the neutrality of the net), or the protocol is optimized to the maximum for a correct functioning.
That is what applications and services like Skype and Hangouts do, which provide VoIP over the Internet, in addition to other services such as instant messaging on Formattext, or videoconference.
VoIP is also used in conventional telephony services (both in fixed and mobile telephony) by operators
Without passing the information - the voice, after all - over the Internet, but through the operator's own private network.
Through a VoIP program like Skype, for example, we can also make calls to a conventional phone, which is not VoIP.
To do this, we will connect from our client VoIP to a gateway (runway).
The best thing about VoIP is that it is a free voice communication system for internal use and, in some cases, also for use with third parties to over public networks, for example creating a VPN (virtual private network, for its acronym in English) to guarantee the privacy of the communications and quality from service.
The introduction of the VoIP has supposed, in fact, a considerable saving for some companies, and an economic damage for the telephone operators.
