A VPN or Virtual Private Network is a technology that allows the extension of a public network such as Internet to a local network space.

In the computing A Virtual Private Network (VPN) or Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a network technology that, for reasons of cost and convenience, offers the possibility of connecting to a public network generating an area-level extension local. For example, this type of network is used when connecting two or more offices of a company through the Internet. This makes it easy to connect and exchange at a low economic cost, and allows members of the same team connect to each other from remote locations.

VPNs work in such a way that, although a public network such as the Internet connection is used, the data is transmitted through a private channel, so that the safety nor the integrity of internal information. The data is encrypted and decrypted alternately, saving money and trouble for companies of different scale.

Considering the cost of connecting two offices in two different countries, VPNs are an excellent alternative that uses an existing technology of interconnected networks to create a smaller network and private.

In terms of architecture, there are three types of virtual private networks: the remote access VPN, the point-to-point VPN, and the internal VPN. Regarding the connection, it can be remote access, VPN router to router, and between firewalls.

For many companies today the configuration of a Virtual Private Network supposes the maintenance of the integrity and confidentiality of data, while at the same time reducing costs and facilitating use, and finally, strengthening the communication within the organization.
