All religions are based on dogmas and rituals and, at the same time, have festive celebrations that commemorate some historical episode. In the case at hand, Hanukkah is a festival typical of Judaism.
Symbols of freedom and history
Hanukkah is a celebration that commemorates a miracle of great historical significance. When the Jews were dominated by the Greeks (11th century BC). C) they forced them not to perform their rituals. In response to this imposition, the Jewish people fought their rulers in order to free themselves from them and thus be able to practice their religion. The Jews managed to win despite their military inferiority and to commemorate their victory they wanted to light the candles on the menorah, the candelabrum formed by seven arms that lights up like an oil lamp and is one of the ancestral symbols for the Jews.
When they wanted to light the menorah they found that there was only oil to light the candles for a day and God did the miracle so that for eight days the candles would remain lit in the Temple of Jerusalem. Thus, the Hanukkah remembers that miracle and for eight days the candles on the menorah are lit. East
