There are in the language two quite different meanings of the word auction, one of them has to do with an action or a situation in which that action is carried out, and the other with a material object or element or abstract. When we talk about auction we usually think in the auctions that are made of certain objects that are sold or donated for the benefit of someone or someone institution. But auction also designates those elements that can be used as the completion of a work or a building. The auction, in the field of architecture, are all those parts of the construction that embellish and decorate (or that have a specific utility) in the top of it: for example the towers, capitals, attics, pinnacles, battlements, merlons or cyclones. All these elements are the final finish that is placed on a construction (for example, a church, a fortress, a castle, etc.) in order to beautify or decorate its surface as well as protect it in its extension complete. Depending on the type of construction and architectural style, the finishes can be very detailed and rich as well as simple and crude.
But the term auction is used mostly to refer to an action that is carried out in a specific space and that invites interested persons to buy objects or services that looking for. The auctions are developed through the methodology of the auction whereby an initial low price is placed on an item (for example, a artwork) and the different interested individuals offer more money for it in an increasing sense. The auction is won and closed when a person makes a very important offer that cannot be defeated by anyone and that makes him the creditor of the object or service in question.
Many auctions or auctions are carried out by companies dedicated to this activity and involve a very significant inflow of capital. In many cases, an auction can be given on assets that a bankrupt person owns. This type of auction is carried out by the State as a way of recovering what the person owes. However, there are also auctions or auctions to benefit that are those in which artists, celebrities, figures of the show donate their objects or memorabilia so that fans can buy them and the money collected at the end is given to organizations solidarity or put into projects of this type.
