The word repressed is a term that we commonly use when we want to show that someone, in a certain situation, or in the absence of it, always as a characteristic of its own personality, contains your impulses and emotions. Juan is so repressed that he cannot confess to MarĂa how much he wants to be with her.
It should be noted that in most cases, this restraint when expressing impulses, desires and emotions occurs around the practice of sex.
Traditionally, instructions and teachings to the extreme of conservative and full of formalities tend to generate repressed individuals. Because the kind of moral conservative and extremely strict does not in any way accept the Liberty sexual, for example, but on the contrary, he condemns it and proposes it as the path that should never be followed. Then, an individual who is raised under these canons, it is very likely that when faced with sex he will not find himself only uncomfortable but also unable to express the emotions and fantasies that he experiences in contact with sex.
Some of the most common behaviors that can be observed in someone who is in the situation of sexual repression are: inability to fully enjoy sex, inability to express the sensations that sexual contact causes in her body, among other.
The psychoanalysis, the method created by the popular psychologist Sigmund Freud in order to investigate and treating mental illnesses, has deeply addressed the issue of repression and in conducting the analysis relied especially on the unconscious sexual conflicts that are generated in the childhood.
Meanwhile, repression is one of the three defense mechanisms mentioned by Freud and that consists of the blocking certain thoughts feelings, memories and wishes by the individual in question, who keeps them still in the unconscious so that they do not affect their daily life. Although, these contents do not disappear far from it, but they retain their effect and become symptomatic, since what was repressed can return to the conscience from dreams, failed acts, or in more serious cases materialize in neurotic actions.
