Retail is an English word and translated into Spanish means retail or retail sale. Therefore, this type of sales is intended to meet the needs of end consumers. It should be borne in mind that the concept of retail includes the set of activities related to the sale of a product or service. Thus, a clothing store, a hairdresser or a laundry that provides a service or sells a product to a consumer or client final, is a establishment retail.
From the customer's point of view, retail sales are aimed at consumption personnel of a product or service and not to other types of activities (for example, reselling in another establishment or distribution commercial).
Retail sales methods
There are basically two types of sale, active and passive. The first involves a sales team trying to sell products or services in an establishment or through another procedure (for example, a call center). Passive selling is normally done behind a counter, in such a way that the seller displays his products and expects the customer to choose the product that suits his needs.
The method sales of a retail business depends on the type of product or the strategybusiness that you want to use.
Common mistakes in retail businesses
In retail or retail businesses there can be some strategic mistakes. Among the most common, we could highlight the following:
1) an inappropriate location of the establishment,
2) an ineffective sales team (with bad salespeople it is impossible for a retail business to function properly),
3) incorrectly raised prices according to the customer target (too high or too low),
4) a messy establishment with an inconspicuous shop window (the shop window acts as a salesperson),
5) a type of products or services that do not fit with the location of the business,
6) the non-carrying out of inventories on a regular basis (you have to know what is in the warehouse to improve sales),
7) not having an online presence (potential clients consult Internet before going to the establishment) and
8) not having the appropriate technology to facilitate the purchase for customers (some businesses retail do not have barcodes for inventories or do not accept cards as a form of pay).
