This step of dance, movement or gesture is already part of the human gestures of the XXI century. We can see it in youtubers, influencers and even soccer players. Much is said about it, but little is known about its origins.
Although many want to mark both the invention of the Dab, the most widespread explanation is the one that places Atlanta as the cradle of this movement
The "dab dance" gave its first appearances in the world of hip hop in this city of the United States, being originally a seal of demarcation of a record company (Quality Control Music), to which rappers and bands such as Migos or Skippa da Flippa. These rappers explain this movement as the gesture they made when coughing after having consumed certain substances.
Even so, many are those who reject this version and there are multiple opinions. In what everyone agrees is that this gesture spread in 2015 and 2016 thanks to the media of communication and social networks, which gave him a popularity little known until now.
Although many people believe that the first athlete to popularize this movement was Paul Pogba at Juventus, few people know that he was the American athlete Cameron Nexton who performed it before millions of spectators during the celebration of a touchdown in the NFL. Likewise, it was the French striker who brought the Dab to Europe, making it the absolute protagonist of world hip hop for 2016.
Other hypothesis about its origin goes back a few years, when in a dunk contest in the NBA in 1991 Dee Brown won this contest with a movement very similar to the Dab.
A gesture of millennial culture
This characteristic gesture is already part of the new millennial culture. It is common among celebrities, athletes and all kinds of media characters. In many videos published between the end of 2015 and 2016 you can see how youtubers use this movement as symbol of victory, of hesitation and of superiority. Social networks and the media favored its rapid diffusion.
In a matter of weeks everyone connected to Internet I had already heard of this gesture and although it is less fashionable, it can still be seen in a multitude of circumstances. To this day it has already been replaced by other newer movements.
The "dab dance" penetrated the world of hip hop and millennial culture to the point that all the news in the world broke some news about the Dab. He even jumped to the spherepolitics when Hillary Clinton dabbed in front of millions of viewers.
