Literally demonology means study or knowledge of the devil. Those who dedicate themselves to it analyze the nature of the devil (we must not forget that it receives other names, such as satan, devil ...). Likewise, this discipline try to establish a hierarchy about the different evil beings and their ability to influence humans.
For believers in the existence of the devil, the knowledge of everything related to him is something totally necessary, since the devil tries to bring evil and harm men. Consequently, if you want to fight evil, you need to know its main author, the devil.
Demonology is a discipline (using the word science is quite inappropriate) that is opposed to another: angelology, that is, the reality of angels as kind beings. From a religious and especially Christian point of view, demons are fallen angels, since they opposed the will of God.
The idea of the devil is part of the traditioncultural of all mankind. It is present in art, in ancient rituals, in satanic churches and in the same popular language (when the
kids they are told "you are badder than a demon"). In any case, it is in the Bible where different references appear about these evil beings.Demons as a symbol of evil
The existence of evil in humanity is an indisputable fact. However, it raises doubts among believers. There is a question that has been asked many times: why does God allow evil? The religious answer is twofold. On the one hand, because man is free when making decisions and, secondly, because The evil spirits and the devil try to deceive the human being and lead them on the path of the sin.
The idea of demons and angels has another interpretation from the religious point of view. They are not real beings, but rather they are a symbol of good and evil.
Students of demonology do not present this knowledge as something symbolic, as if it were an allegory that serves to explain a concept, for them it is about real beings that threaten man. However, science has shown that the only meaning of some statements in the Bible is of the type allegorical (for example, in the Bible the world was created in seven days, something that does not correspond to the data scientists).
Like all religious themes, demonology has a component of mystery and timelessness. debate. And in this type of controversy there are two sides: the believers and defenders of dogma and, on the opposite side, those who consider demons as a belief based on superstition.
