In matter politics is designated as dictator to that ruler who assumes all the powers of the state and who then by holding all of them, the executive, legislative and judicial is not subject to control of any kind.

And in common language, starting from the aforementioned reference, a dictator is called that person who is characterized by abusing the power or authority that he holds and who likes to treat other people harshly by asserting that indicated power.

The synonym that we use the most for this word is that of tyrant, meanwhile, the one that is opposed is democrat, because precisely designates that individual who defends and is a supporter of the democracy.
It should be noted that democracy is a system of government that consists of the people being the supreme sovereign and as such freely elects, through elections, those political leaders that it considers best will represent.
