A typical disc player. Depending on the laser mounted, it could read and record all the disc formats on the market.
A disk is a unit where data is stored digitally. The way the information is stored within these drives is what makes the difference between some disks and others. On a disc you can save information of all kinds from computer games to movies in High Definition or HD as it is called Format popularly. A disk has standard measurements. This way it fits in any reader that is manufactured with the same standards.
The first disc to hit the market was developed by Sony and Philips companies and was called CD ROM = Compact Disc Read Only Memory. He goes on to say that it is a compact disc that can only be read. The capacity of these disks is 700 megabytes. At the beginning of his commercialization, the disc or CD was not very successful, so the creators of the invention decided to record classical music on top quality of sound, in order to promote the sales of their records together with that of their
reproduction, which weren't cheap at all in the 1980s.Little by little they were giving advantages and discounts in the purchase of music pop, recorded on CD ROM to make the old vinyl record and the traditional cassette disappear. In 1984 the records were released for the use of the computing that it was still in "the stone age" or in the age of the tape, it would have to be said.

One disc has a central perforation the size of a 10 cent Florin coin (old Dutch coin. Now they use the Euro). The diameter of a standard disc is 12 cm. A size that corresponds to the philosophy from Sony that it should fit in a pocket. There are also 8-centimeter CDs on the market with a smaller data and music storage capacity.
The different types of disc, CD ROM, DVD (Digital Versatil Disc), Blue Ray, keep the measurements of the CD ROMs originals, because if the measurements were changed, the new players would not be compatible with discs ancient. They would therefore be less attractive to the market.
The manufacture of CDs is done with a plastic called polycarbonate that is very easy to handle and shape. Microscopic projections in the shape of a spiral are printed on this piece of material and everything is covered with a very thin layer of aluminum that covers the printed protrusions.
