When of a material is said to be ductile It will be because it is susceptible to be deformed, molded, buckled or stretched very easily.
"Plasticine is an extremely ductile material with which children can make different creations very easily".
Material that can be easily deformed and molded
Meanwhile, when the term ductile is applied to a metal, it implies that the metal may extend into wires or threads.
Copper is one of the most ductile metals that exist ”.
Scope of ductility property
Ductility, on the other hand, will be the property of those ductile materials, which, under the action of a forceThey can be deformed without actually breaking.
It is usually taken as a synonym for plasticity.
So, these materials that as we said can be certain metals or asphalts, will be classified as ductile. On the contrary, materials that do not have the aforementioned capacity to deform without actually breaking for it are known as fragile. This implies that ductile materials or metals are capable of undergoing significant deformations without breaking, while the brittle ones will break without deformation.
On the other hand, ductile materials are able to tolerate known plastic deformation manufacturing methods and therefore withstand a greater amount of use, since before breaking they deform. It will take considerable force to break a ductile material; the atoms slide past each other and thus will stretch the material without breaking it.
The study that is established on the materials in question allows to obtain a concrete idea of the ductility that they have per se.
There are also methods that allow the ductility of a material to be quantitatively determined.
In general, the degree of ductility of metals will be greater in direct relation to the increase in temperature to which they are subjected.
On the contrary, the lower the temperature applied to them, the greater the brittleness.
Gold, copper and steel are the emblematic examples of ductile metals, being that in addition to ductile, the three coincide in the malleability, which implies that these materials can be decomposed into sheets and spread.
Docility of a person
Although, it is also recurrent that the word is used to qualify an individual, therefore, when it is used in this sense, what will allow to refer is the docility presented by the person in question. When a person, whatever their occupation, profession or job successfully fulfills various tasks or functions it will be plausible to be called ductile.
Being ductile will also imply the ability of a person to simply adapt to various contexts and environments in which they have to intervene.
"Juan is one of the most flexible employees we have, it was very easy to convince him that he will accept the mission inside".
In the example just mentioned, ductility is a beneficial characteristic for the person since it allows him to be considered in his work as a good employee to whom a new activity can be assigned for the moment to another because it is known that he will comply with effectiveness.
However, on the other hand, docility, in other contexts may not bring benefits, such is the case of those situations in which one because of that ductility that characterizes him, it is very easy to deceive or convince him to do something that does not correspond or that will bring him complications.
Because by the way, we must say that many times this sense is used with a connotation negative, to speak of those people who are easy to deceive, as we have already pointed out, who do not know tell someone no even if they want to and that their characters are too weak to impose themselves on others.
A common behavior is for the person with these characteristics to change their way of think and it accommodates that of the majority so as not to be disruptive, or avoid conflicts with others.
Of course, acting in this way will imply a very low self-esteem and lack of personality own in the person who does it.
