Known as one of the largest countries in Europe, Ukraine is located in the east of this continent, sharing its borders with Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova and the Black Sea and the Azov at south. Ukraine is a territory of more than six hundred thousand square kilometers while its population it is greater than forty-six million inhabitants. The capital and largest city of this country is the city of Kiev, which is located north of the Ukrainian territory. Although the majority of the population is Ukrainian, there are about 15 percent Russian inhabitants in this country.
The history of Ukraine has always been related to Russian culture and civilization. The first human settlement in the area is believed to date back to 4500 BC. During Antiquity, several Greek, Roman and Byzantine colonies were founded in the area and later becoming this area one of the first to be ravaged by the Huns during the barbarian invasions. During the Modern Age the present territory of Ukraine was organized into a
complexity of political-economic spaces such as khanates, empires, etc.Today, Ukraine is organized under the republican form in which a president (representative of the executive power) together with participation of the legislative and judicial powers. The country is divided into twenty-four administrative regions such as Cherkasy, Donetsk, Kherson, Lviv, Kiev, Odessa, Volyn, and more. Although the geographical territorial limits are not exactly those of the complex cultural identities, we can say that each of these regions has a identity more or less defined, visible in elements such as the gastronomy, cultural manifestations, music, etc.
Finally, we can add that, due to its large size, Ukraine has extensive fertile plains and plains that, however, are characterized by a weather Cold in winter. This climate tempers towards the south coast.
