Depending on the context in which the word is used latest, it will refer to something different in each one ...
One of the most general and frequent uses of the last term is to refer to that or the one that within a series has nothing behind. My son is so high that in the college they already form it last in the row. I don't think they call you so fast since they are in order and you are the last on the list.
Another fairly common use of the term is given at the request of wanting to talk about what turns out to be the most remote. I can't believe where my ring finally was, in the last corner where I would have looked for it is in Mario's room.
It is also common to use the word last to refer something that is presented or believed to be definitive. You're not going on vacation alone, it's my last word and it's over! I'm not going back to you, this is final.
On the other hand, when something does not present alternative possible or constitutes a situation considered as extreme
, the use of the word last is frequent to account for it. In last instance I will go ask Juan, first, I prefer to wait for him to confess it to me alone. As a last resort I will resign my position, I will continue to fight.Meanwhile, the last term is closely linked to others such as: definitive, final, conclusive, current, new, later, terminal and rear and on the contrary, it opposes the following: first, previous.
Also, there are a large number of phrases that include the last term: to the last (is in full fashion), last (which is in the last leg of a period of time), be in the last (to be about to die), by last (later, finally), be something the latest (to be something the height of the intolerable).
And in Italy, Latest is the name of a location and Italian comune corresponding to the Province from Bolzano, region from Trentino-Alto Adige, which has 2,959 inhabitants.
