The term comes from the French "informatic"(a mixture of the words" information "and" automatique "), it is the engineering branch related to automated information processing by machines. This field of study, investigation and work comprises the use of computing to solve problems through programs, design, scientific theoretical foundations and various techniques.
Information is considered to be processed automatically when the process includes data input, processing, and output.
Informatics, then, helps the human being in the task of empowering communication skills, thought and memory. It is applied in various areas of social activity, such as multimedia applications, art, science, computerized design, games digital, research, public transport, communications, robots in factories, control and monitors of industrial processes, consultation and storage information, or business management. While it is a discipline born with a focus on / for the industry, at the end of the 20th century it became popular and
also expanded towards home use, replacing or enhancing the usefulness of other household appliances (music equipment, televisions, etc.), services (telephony, etc.) or mass media (newspapers, movie theater, magazines, etc.).A large number of disciplines converge in computing: artificial intelligence, electronics, data networks, architecture of computers, software development methods, mathematics, etc., assisting physicists, doctors, biologists, meteorologists, chemists, engineers, scientific researchers, communicators, artists, entrepreneurs and almost anyone living in an industrial society modern.
The computing produced the lowering of costs of production and the increase in the production of goods in large industry thanks to the automation of the design, manufacturing and testing processes.
Thanks to global communication networks like Internet, computing is increasingly seen as an element of creation and exchange highly participatory cultural.
