The term species is the plural of species, while, for Biology, what is that discipline that deals since its creation with the implications and scope of the species, says that species is called each of the groups into which the genera are divided, the basic unit of the classification biological, something like giving the generic a morphologically concrete and recognizable place.
Generally, the species is defined according to the interbreeding capacity of some organisms with others and that from this results the possibility of producing fertile offspring. The likeness of DNA wave observation of some adapted local traits, very specific, allow to recognize the organisms that correspond and respond to the same species.
Since ancient times, men have been wondering about the species and the distinctions that exist between each, This is why the concept has mutated and undergoes various interpretations according to the optics used to tackle it. Thus it is that it arrived at various conceptions such as being a biological species, an evolutionary species, a species phylogenetics, morphological species and ecological species.
The biological species is the one that has aroused the most adherents and consensus, at least within zoologists, it proposes that species is a group or population natural of individuals that can interbreed, but that at the same time are reproductively isolated from other related groups.
On the other hand, the evolutionary species proposes something different from the previous one in terms of isolation, since it says that evolutionary species is a lineage of organisms that maintain their identity of other lineages, possessing the same historical and evolutionary tendencies.
On the other hand, those who endorse the morphological conception maintain that each species is distinguishable from its relatives by the morphology that shows.
Meanwhile, the phylogenetic species, recognizes as a species any group of organisms in which all, without exception, share a single derived character that is not in their ancestors or related. And the ecological species considers that a species will be given by the area it occupies and that it develops regardless of all those other lineages that are outside its biogeographic area of distribution.
The current number of species varies according to the source that is consulted and approximates, there is talk of between one and a half million and two million species.
