Example of Words With B and V
Spanish Classes / / July 04, 2021
One of the most frequent spelling doubts is whether some words should be written with b or with v.
The letters b and v are of those that have graphic representations from the most remote antiquity. They already existed in the Phoenician alphabet. However, at that time they had a very specific difference: The letter b, from its origin represents the phoneme / b /, as in a boat or boat. The letter v was derived from a letter from which the phonemes / u /, / y / and / b / were derived. In the Roman alphabet, the symbol V could represent both the phonemes / u / and / b /. The phoneme / b / was used when the letter was written between two vowels. It had the sound / u /, when it was written before or after a consonant.
Currently both letters represent the same sound, the phoneme / b /.
One of the main spelling doubts is knowing in which cases the b is used and in which the v.
