The geography of our planet is vast and in the distribution of that great space there is an enormous quantity of elements and phenomena that lie in it. Meanwhile, lakes are one of the most common and large masses of Water with which we can meet on earth. They are mostly freshwater and accumulate in the depressions of the land.
So, by lake we understand a body of water that is characterized by little or no movement Of the mattery. This body of water is located far from the sea unlike rivers and it is considered that its origin It has to do with glaciations since in general the lake is located near mountainous areas or valleys. For a lake to exist, as we have already pointed out, there must be a depression in the ground in the same way that it happens with valleys. The depth and extension of the lakes has to do precisely with the physical characteristics that this depression has.
How are lakes formed?
Unlike what happens with oceanic and maritime waters, the lake is generally made up of fresh water. There are several ways in which a lake can be formed, among them the movement of Teutonic plates and the consequent
training depressions in the ground. These depressions can also be generated by volcanic movements. Another possibility is the formation or melting of glaciers. Finally, sediment slipping can also occur, blocking the outlet of a moving river or watercourse.Changes in your levels
Being a stable and still body of water, the lake observes its level changes through external actions. The increase in the water level of a lake can occur through constant and abundant rainfall that causes the level of the lake to rise and in the most extreme cases can overflow its level; by possible tributaries; while the decrease can occur from evaporation, by underground tributaries or by the action of human beings who use water as a natural resource.
Main lakes of the world
I know esteem that more than 60% of the world's lakes are located in the current territory from Canada. Among the most important and famous lakes on the planet we must mention the Great Lakes of North America (Lake Superior, Michigan, Ferret, Erie and Ontario), the Siberian Lake of Baikal (the deepest in the world), the African Lake Tanganyika (the largest in the world), the Lake Titicaca in Peru, the Dead Sea (despite being known as the sea, it is the lowest lake in the world), Lake Eyre in Australia, between others.
A tremendously beautiful landscape
Another issue associated with lakes and that we cannot ignore when referring to these large bodies of water that cover a large part of our planet is the beauty that emanates from them. Without a doubt, the lakes are one of the most beautiful landscapes to see, especially when they are surrounded by mountains, certainly in these cases the scenery that is observed is beautiful.
In recent years, in some parts of the world there has been a boom in neighborhood construction around a lake, precisely because of the beauty of the landscape and the natural imprint that living close to or just meters from a lake.
People who like natural ways of life and away from the smog of the city tend to opt for this type of housing surrounded by lakes and located in suburban areas.
Artificial lakes
And when there are no lakes but there is a need to have a body of water of this type, it is possible to create them artificially. New technologies bring us infinite possibilities and the creation of artificial lakes is one of them without a doubt. Basically they are generated to take advantage of hydraulic energy, to have a source of purified water or for the purpose of carrying out some type of sports activity that requires water.
