The term sea is used mostly to designate, on the one hand, to that mass of Water salty that is smaller than the ocean, but also with the same word the whole of the mass of salty water that covers most of the planet earth is called, including in it the smaller seas and oceans.
Likewise, some large lakes, which of course exceed the corresponding average, to be called as such, are popularly known as the term of seas, actually the formal name they bear is the closed or inland sea, for example, the Caspian Sea, the Dead Sea, the Sea of Aral.
The preceding distinction on the seas and the rest of those that exist and which are what allow us to distinguish and speak of various types of seas, will be determined and will have to do with the contact that they have with the ocean, being able to be open or closed, according to whether they are totally surrounded by land or not, as occurs with the black sea or the sea continental.
So there are three major categories of seas... the coastal or coastal seas, which are the very large ones. and open, they are not separated from the oceans but differ from these by being shallower, the
amplitude of its tides and the elevated temperature of its waters. On the other hand, the continental seas and as their denomination anticipates us, they are located within continents and communicate with the oceans through a strait of scarce depth. The main difference with the previous ones is that their tides show a low amplitude. And finally, the inland or closed seas, briefly mentioned at the beginning of the reviewThey occupy extensive endorheic depressions and, as we mentioned, correspond to very large lakes.
A curiosity about the term is that although its denomination in masculine terms is generally more widespread, people from sea, such as fishermen and all those who dedicate their life and work to it and poets, usually attribute to the term when they refer to it, the gender feminine, the sea, instead of the sea, as we all say mostly.
The International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) is the body that understands the most about seas and also the maximum authority at the time of having to delimit them and on the other hand, for whom the sea is a place of pleasure, joy and rest and want to celebrate with him for so many joys and good moments lived and provided, story, that the world maritime day is celebrated every August 26.
On the other hand and without having anything to do with the great masses of water, but if taking from it the question of immensity that characterizes the seas, the word sea, is also often used to refer to the abundance of something.
