The main types of sentences are briefly explained below, according to different classification criteria.
Types of sentences according to their structure:
to) Simple sentences.
They are the sentences that have a single predicate, which has a conjugated verb as its nucleus. For example: "I am hot."
b) Compound sentences.
They are the sentences that have more than one conjugated verb; They are made up of two or more simple sentences. For example: "The plot of the film was interesting and attracted the attention of the public."
c) Juxtaposed sentences.
They are compound sentences that are not joined by means of links such as conjunctions, phrases, etc.; rather, they are separated by punctuation marks, such as commas, semicolons, and colons. These are independent sentences. Example: "The floor is dirty: we must clean it."
d) Coordinated sentences.
Coordinate sentences are independent sentences that are joined by means of a conjunction coordinating, such as copulative, disjunctive, adversative, distributive or consecutive. Example: "I'm hungry, but I'm not thirsty." Types:
1. Consecutive coordinated sentences
2. Copulative coordinate sentences
3. Coordinate distributive sentences
4. Explanatory coordinate sentences
5. Juxtaposed coordinate sentences
and) Subordinate clauses.
They are secondary sentences that depend syntactically on a main sentence, to which they are linked by means of conjunctions, phrases, adverbs or pronouns. Example: “We are glad who have accompanied us”.
Types of sentences according to the grammatical voice
to) Passive sentences.
Passive sentences or passive voice sentences are sentences whose subject is a patient subject who receives or suffers the action of the verb. Example: "The works were graded by the teacher."
b) Active prayers.
Active sentences or active voice sentences are sentences whose subject is an active subject that performs or executes the action of the verb. Example: "You attended a photography and video editing course."
Types of sentences according to the type of subject
to) Impersonal sentences.
Impersonal sentences are a type of sentence in which there is no subject. The verb does not refer to any particular subject, neither explicit nor implicit. For example: "There are things that are better not to say."
b) Personal prayers.
Personal sentences are those that do have a subject; the predicate refers to a subject that can be explicit or implicit. For example: "The doctor is an expert in facial reconstruction surgery."
Types of sentences according to the kind of verb
to) Copulative prayers.
They are sentences whose core of the predicate is a copulative verb; the copulative verbs are ser, be and Example: "I am very well."
b) Transitive sentences.
They are the sentences whose core of the predicate is a transitive verb; transitive verbs are those that can have a direct object. Example: "She gave flowers to her friends."
c) Intransitive sentences.
They are the sentences whose core of the predicate is an intransitive verb; intransitive verbs are those that cannot have a direct object. Example: "The baby laughed out loud."
d) Predicative sentences.
They are sentences whose core of the predicate is a predicative verb; Predicative verbs are all those that are not copulative, and are characterized by themselves expressing an action, a state or a process. Example: "The team made it to the final."
and) Reflective sentences.
They are sentences in which the subject performs and receives the action of the verb at the same time. Example: "She put on makeup before going out."
