The word minority allows to designate that part or group within a population that turns out to be in numbers and with respect to the whole greater, lesser and that normally has beliefs and traditions which are what allow us to identify its members, from among all the inhabitants of the community to which they belong, precisely, by the aforementioned uses and customs that they hold and that by the way are what the they differentiate.
Group within a population that is less in number in relation to the rest
Meanwhile, among these differentiating characteristics, the following are usually highlighted: language, race, ethnicity, religion and some others a bit more generic such as: cultural or social.
Although of course compared to the total population they are a minority, the minority group, to become in such, it must have a significant number of members, which is precisely what the minority entity will give it.
Although unfortunately the history of mankind is replete with cases of
violence exercised against minorities, for example, the fierce persecutions exercised against blacks before the first half of the last century in the USACurrently, at least in the nations that enjoy a democratic system of government, such a situation is no more that a bad memory and therefore there is a normed and authentic respect for the customs professed by the minorities.History also shows us until not long ago the suffering that sexual minorities have had to suffer: homosexuals, transvestites, transsexuals, who by not following the parameter accepted by the vast majority of society, which is heterosexuality, knew how to be the White of discrimination, and in some parts of the world to this day they are.
In votes, the opposite of majority
On the other hand, the term minority is widely used at the behest of a vote, since this term will designate the set of votes that are opposed to those of the majority of voters.
“The project of law abortion obtained a minority in the Senate and was therefore dismissed.”
In parliament, which is the institution representative of Legislative power, bills presented by the various political spaces that compose it are constantly discussed.
Meanwhile, it is necessary to achieve the largest number of votes, a majority, as is popularly said, for a bill to become law.
For example, when a government manages with a parliamentary minority, it becomes more difficult for it to come up with its own projects and must agree with the rest of the opposition political forces.
Period in which a monarch cannot reign because he is a minor
Another use of the word minority allows us to designate the period of time during which a sovereign will not be able to reign in the territory that corresponds to him as a result of his young age.
“The minority is what did not allow him to assume the government after the death of his father.”
In history there has been a lot of this context in which an heir to the throne could not assume it due to his young age, some even when became kings were still babies, for example, is that in most of these situations a regency acted, a provisional government, normally headed by the mother, a guardian, or some other person, who held the position of regent until the heir reached the age of majority and was able to access to the throne.
Minority of age
And on his side, the Minority of age, is the legal status held by an individual while they have not reached adulthood, generally established between 18 and 21 years. This legal situation is what will prevent him from taking charge of certain acts that he commits during this period, as well as be able to carry out certain activities such as getting married or leaving the country, without the corresponding authorization of his parents or tutors.
While the minority lasts, the parents or guardians will be the absolute responsible for the minor, they will have to take care of him in every aspect, demand and sense.
Take care of it, dress it, send it to school, teach it values, among other issues.
They will also be responsible if the minor develops any action that violates the law, they must, as their parents or guardians, respond to the law for what the minor has done.
The stage of an individual before reaching the age of majority is characterized by rebellion and in some cases by the lack of conscience On certain issues, for example, it is essential that the young person is controlled, content and of course supported by responsible adults who guide and help you at this time of their lives.
