Orthothanasia is the word that is also used to designate the concept of dignified death, that is, it is a synonymous of worthy death.
Orthothanasia, then, implies the death of an individual, suffering from some disease terminal or irreversible, that is, it is proven that his medical situation has no turning back, accompanied by all those medical care and relief that are available so that it does not cause any type of additional suffering to the patient. In other words, the doctor must provision palliative methods that avoid suffering until death comes naturally.
Also, it can be understood as the right that any patient has to decide to die with dignity and not be subjected to invasive practices that further increase his pain and prolong his life without any type of expectation rather than continuing to contribute to pain or a survival in which there are no possibilities of development or evolution some.
It should be noted that it in no way supposes the abandonment
of the patient until death arrives, or in an even more complex stage, the acceleration of death from some practice. And this is precisely where it differs substantially from the euthanasia, since orthothanasia under no point of view proposes the deliberate anticipation of death.Around this issue, such as euthanasia, there are numerous voices for and against; among those who rise against, the main and most resounding argument what they wield is that as long as there is life, there is hope recoveryTherefore, it should be fought in this regard at all costs. Meanwhile, with respect to those arguments in favor of orthothanasia, the following stand out: put a stop to the cruelty of some practices and respect the will of the patient and their families.
