Food and drink that provoke disgust and sensation disgust can be described as slop. It is a word that comes from the language Italian, specifically from the word bazzoffia, which literally means "tasteless soup".
In the culinary context
Food can elicit varying levels of satisfaction. At a maximum level we will say that a dish is exquisite, tasty, appetizing or simply rich. At a lower level, the food is not necessarily accompanied by any praiseworthy qualification, since it is limited to fulfilling a merely nutritional function.
If a dish is badly cooked and is unpleasant because of its appearance, taste or smell, we will say that it is slop. This adjective is normally used in some contexts: prison environments, food in the barracks and in any circumstance in which the food is lousy.
A matter of taste
Culinary tastes are highly context dependent cultural. Certain tasty and very appetizing dishes are disgusting to those who are not used to their taste or appearance.
For a Kenyan, the blood of cattle is a real delicacy, while a tourist would surely consider it a real slop.
In Spain snails are eaten with absolute normality, but these animals are considered disgusting to some visitors.
Chicha is a fermented drink that is highly appreciated for its flavor and nutrients in many indigenous peoples of South America, but its flavor is not valued in the same way among those who do not know the culture of cereals.
A multipurpose term
There are words whose real meaning goes beyond what the dictionary establishes. This is what happens with the adjective slop. Thus, at margin From the culinary context we use this adjective to describe anything that seems very low to us quality, like a movie or a show.
We use this word to define something dirty, disgusting or unpleasant in some sense. It is also used to avoid bad words, such as shit or others.
Bazofia, trash, rabble, spoil and garbage are synonyms
Synonymous words have a similar meaning, but each term contributes a huesingular, a specificity. We say that something is trash when it has no value, because it is something useless.
We use the word rabble in relation to people of very low category human. We consider something to be a spoil when it is useless. The junk tag serves to catalog something in a very disparaging way.
