The word fallow applies to the scope agricultural and it is known as that surface or land that is left to rest for two or three years to recover its nutrients and can return to give the best fruits in the next sowing and culture. Fallow land is what is obtained from the practice of crop rotation by which the land used and cultivated is rotated so as not to wear down the I usually excessively. This practice is common and is, ultimately, the basis for obtaining a agricultural production efficient.
The notion of fallow and that of the practice of crop rotation began to be carried out at the end of the Middle Ages, at which time the growing population Europe demanded more and more food and the land was not enough to obtain raw materials from quality and fast. Thus, this system was created that ensures that the lands produce quality raw materials due to the variation of the crops (no recommends planting the same type of crop several times in a row) and the rest that is given every two or three years to each portion of land.
Today, agricultural techniques have improved significantly and that is why in addition to letting it rest, the fallow also needs to be treated in an adequate way to recover the nutrients that it had naturally and that were worn down after a cultivation process and sowing. Thus, many types of fertilizers and other products are currently used that accelerate the fallow recovery process and allow the best results to be obtained. You must also eliminate all types of weeds and, of course, control pests or pests that can be of great danger for proper crop growth in a future harvest.
