The concept of chronological age is determined by the date of birth of an individual. On the contrary, biological age refers to the state of health, that is, the conditions of the cells, tissues and organs of a person.
This difference between one and the other is evident in those who appear to be one age but actually have a very different age. If someone says of a 70-year-old that he looks like a boy, he is indicating that despite his age he looks younger.
The true age of the organism
Through makeup, clothing and cosmetic surgery it is possible to achieve a younger appearance and this circumstance logically favors the self-esteem. However, the true age of the organism is measured from the evaluation of internal organs and body structures: arteries, bones, skin condition, lung capacity, etc.
In other words, an individual's "body" may look great, but his "engine" may have some significant deficiencies.
A series of physiological markers of aging are used to assess biological age, such as
hormone growth, thyroid hormone or the functioning of the immune system. From a health point of view, biological age is much more important than the age that appears on the document of identity. On the other hand, there are some indicators psychological factors that are also related to biological age. Intellectual curiosity and the desire to live are aspects that influence a person's mental age. In fact, there are old men with a young spirit and young people with an old man's mind.
The role of the biological clock and some keys to achieving longevity
All living beings have an internal clock that regulates sleep, body temperature, cellular processes and, logically, the aging process. Although aging is irreversible, it is possible to slow it down by leading a healthy life and avoiding certain excesses.
To reach a long-lived age and with a good quality of life, experts recommend some guidelines. It is advisable to carry out a physical activity periodic and adapted to the chronological age of the individual.
Likewise, it is recommended to avoid the abuse of alcohol, drugs, fatty foods and convenience foods. An orderly, active life and a young spirit are some of the factors that favor a longer life expectancy.
Finally, getting a good night's sleep and getting enough sleep is a habit that improves regeneration mobile of the organism.
