Traditionally, rural spaces that have a large area of land (usually organized under agricultural production or livestock) and with a establishment central from which various administrative operations are carried out as well as living and staying. The stays are characteristic phenomena of South America, especially of countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and some parts of Brazil.
One of the main characteristics of a room is that, unlike other types of rural establishments, this takes place in plains or plains instead of being in spaces mountainous or territory steep. The stays are usually dedicated mainly to the production livestock, although in some cases they combine both livestock production and production agricultural depending on the possibilities of the soil, the weather and the investment available to be made.
Estancias were one of the most common ways that land was allocated and organized in South America after independence from Spain was achieved. Normally, the estancias were run by large landowners who owned a lot of capital and who were, logically, the people of the highest lineage and power in society. These rooms could also belong to the Church, although many of these lands were expropriated in the 19th century for not being under production. The appropriation of land in the western and southern territory of Argentina and Chile (a phenomenon known as Campaña del
Desert and occurred at the end of the 19th century) had the objective of removing the indigenous people from these spaces and putting those lands under the power of the State.Today, the region known as Patagonia is undoubtedly one of the places where there is a greater abundance of different types of ranches. Almost all of them are private and are dedicated both to the production of agricultural and livestock elements but also to the tourism since they receive and host tourists from all over the world. Thus, they offer different services and allow visitors to enjoy a experience completely different.
