In the field of geology, the stratum is that mass mineral with Format of a layer and that makes up the sedimentary soils.
Rocks can be divided into strata as a consequence of the sedimentation process that takes place on them. The stratum generally appears as a horizontal layer, of coincident thickness and with rather sharp interfaces in relation which would be the youngest stratum, which as such, will be located above the oldest stratum that will then be found below. The old layer is called Wall, meanwhile, to the young, the ceiling.
Likewise, the word stratum is used to designate those overlapping layers that exist in archaeological or fossil sites.

On the other hand, at the request of social ambit, the stratum implies the socioeconomic level of this or that person. Thus, societies are divided into different strata depending on the aforementioned level. The lower stratum will be the one made up of people with

And on the contrary, the upper stratum is the one made up of the richest individuals in a society.Also, the term stratum is used to refer to each of the mantles that are superimposed on each other constituting the skeleton of certain things.
And in matters of Meteorology, to those strip shape clouds they are called by the term stratum. The main characteristics that this type of clouds assume are: flatness, absence of shapes, low height, color that ranges from blackish gray to whitish. They are formed from ascending mists or when the air cold moves at a very low altitude. Normally this type of cloud does not transform into rain but in fog, mist or drizzle.
