Definition of Child Exploitation

The kids they are an important part of society. They are often said to be the future. Whatever the childhood of a person is going to be decisive for the rest of his life.

There are organisms international organizations (UNICEF is a clear example) that try to take care of children from a global perspective. This type of institutions defend the idea that children are a sector of the population vulnerable. It is easy to manipulate them, abuse them, in short, exploit them. Thus, child exploitation is a concept that refers to the various activities through which children are subjected by adults.

The main child exploitation is labor. There are gangster groups and clans that turn to children for work. It is an illegal situation and states pursue these practices. Despite this, there are children who work clandestinely. Their working conditions are precarious, with low wages, without guarantees and without any type of I respect or consideration. Formerly it was a reality that children worked in the fields or factories. With time and pressure from some social movements, child exploitation at work was eradicated in most countries. Child exploitation does not refer exclusively to the world of work. It is applicable in a sexual sense, since children are used as a claim for prostitution. Another side of this problem is manifested in wars, where the smallest (they are called children of war) are also used to intervene in armed conflicts.

In any of its manifestations, child exploitation has the same meaning: taking advantage of the weakness of children to engage in any illegal activity. As is logical, the economic interest is the idea that encourages this phenomenon.

To eradicate this problem (which exists all over the planet and with multiple facets), governments and some humanitarian institutions are trying to correct it. There are basically two strategies: to police the mafias that carry out this activity and to launch social awareness campaigns.

The causes of child exploitation are very diverse. The main one is poverty, but there are others that are part of its origin: lack of culture, the absence of values, the power of organized crime, etc.
