Definition of Modern Narrative

Modern narrative refers to fictional narratives typical of the 20th century to the present. While it is impossible to establish a precise moment when it comes to the birth of a trend, it can be pointed out vaguely the time in which the proliferation of a series of common traits that can be understood as significant. Thus, the last century showed some changes with respect to the previous one in the area of literature. These may have in many cases some relationship with events outside the cultural sphere.

The nineteenth century was characterized by the predominance of realistic literature. Again, although there were many manifestations and nuances regarding the classification of "realism", the truth is that they all had some points of contact motivated by a ideology underlying. This was linked to the attempt to represent social relations and human life in general, that is, to show reality. It can be pointed out that it is not by chance that this descriptive effort has such relevance when the scientific discourse acquires notorious

legitimacy. Indeed, in both cases there is an attempt to achieve an objective view.

In return, modern narrative moves away from these attempts and postulates. The desire to describe human relationships objectively leaves aside and a more subject-centered view is advocated. That is why, from the formal point of view, the use of different voices, from different points of view for a certain event is frequent.. It can also be noted that there is in this one plurality of interpretations that can be sustained; this aspect is related to ambiguitysemantics that these productions boast. In terms of time, linearity is broken, and there may be constant setbacks and advances, an aspect that results in a tendency for the story to become fragmentary.

All of these formal jobs in general have little to do with the quality of a particular work. Regardless of the way to evaluate the quality of a text, the truth is that the forms do not guarantee it.
