The technology medical is an area of knowledge complementary to the health sciences that aims to carry out procedures from investigation, diagnosis and treatment of various diseases under the surveillance and supervision of the treating physician.
Medical technology groups different specialties
The support staff for care work carry out different types of tasks, so they can perform in a variety of settings, such as:
Clinical laboratory. Clinical laboratory activities are carried out by bioassay professionals who are supported by personnel who work as laboratory assistants who perform various activities including taking samples, running tests, staining of slides, as well as handling Y provision of samples. They must implement biosafety standards that allow them to protect themselves from the chemical and biological risks to which they are commonly exposed.
Radiology and imaging. Radiological technicians work in this area, who carry out the preparation of the patient and the imaging such as x-ray, tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, bone densitometry, scintigraphy and ultrasound. These personnel usually have well-defined work standards as they are exposed to radiation.
Pathological anatomy laboratory. The technician who works in this area is the cytotechnologist, he is a professional which is in charge of handling the different tissue samples that are processed for biopsy and cytology studies, as well as special procedures such as immunohistochemistry. They are in charge of pathologists.
Cardiopulmonary technology. It is an area dedicated to the management of electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, stress tests, spirometry and extracorporeal circulation pumps, also includes the professionals in charge of the adaptation and calibration of the pacemaker.
Otorhinolaryngology. The technical staff supports the exercise of the ENT doctor by carrying out studies such as audiometry, otoneurological studies and vestibular studies.
Bank of blood. In this type of units, the hemotherapy technician works, a professional who carries out the obtaining, study, processing and transfusion of blood and different blood products, supporting the work of doctors hematologists.
Electrophysiological studies. Technicians in this area handle equipment related to electrophysiological studies such as electromyography, electroencephalography, polysomnography, and evoked potentials.
Optometry. Optometrists are technical personnel dedicated to the identification of disorders of vision related to refractive vices and their correction through the adaptation of corrective lenses, also can carry out procedures such as the determination of eye pressure and screening for pathologies such as colour blindness.
