The Trinity or the Mystery of the Holy Trinity is a fundamental aspect of the doctrine Christian. It consists of the idea that God is one but at the same time there are three persons, that is, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. At the outset there is a problem that can be expressed as a question: how is it possible that God, being one, as the Bible affirms, is at the same time three persons? This question has sparked and raises all kinds of debates between Christians and non-Christians.
The solution to the riddle is found in the Bible
For Christians the Bible is the authority maximum and as such must be accepted by believers. Therefore, to understand the meaning of the Trinity, one must go to the original source and understand what God has revealed about himself.
In the book Deuteronomy states that God is one. However, in 2 Corinthians 13:14 it is also said that there is a plurality in the nature of God, since it is formed by the Creator himself, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. In the
New Testament The question of the Trinity appears in various passages, for example in Matthew 28: 18-20 allusion is made to the words of Jesus Christ, who affirms that his disciples must make followers and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (with these words Jesus Christ placed himself on the same level as the Father and the Spirit Holy). The Bible names each of the three persons of the Trinity as God. From a strictly rational It is not possible to understand the idea that God is one being in three persons. However, thanks to Don from faith believers can understand the mystery of the Trinity.
The controversy over the Trinity and non-Trinitarian positions
During the first centuries of Christianity there were a plurality of currents, among which Arianism, Ebionism and some baptismal sects stand out.
One of the controversies between them was that of the Holy Trinity. With the purpose to unify Christian doctrine, in the lV century d. C the Council of Nicea was convened and since then the Catholic Church maintains the dogma of the Trinity in an official way. However, some churches do not accept it in its entirety and are known as non-Trinitarian churches, among which highlights the current of Jehovah's Witnesses, some Quakers, the Seventh-day Church of God or the Pentecostal Church United.
From a doctrinal point of view, some theologians maintain that the Holy Trinity is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith, since other mysteries of the faith are explained from it. According to other Christian positions, the Trinity is something accidental, since what is relevant is believe in God.
