Assertion Sentence Example
Spanish Classes / / July 04, 2021
The affirmative sentences, also known as affirmative sentences, are the ones we use to say something about the subject of the sentence. They are a type of declarative sentences, also called declarative sentences, in which something about the subject is affirmed, although what is affirmed is not necessarily true.
To consider a sentence to be assertive, it is enough that a statement is made:
Elephants are gray. (True assertion)
Elephants can fly. (False assertion)
Types of affirmative sentences:
There are positive affirmative sentences and negative affirmative sentences.
The positive assertions say or state something directly about the subject:
Rosa eats soup.
My sister studies a lot.
The negative affirmative sentences make a statement, using negative particles, but enclose a statement:
I did not come to eat.
I've never been to the beach.
I have never seen a comet.
Finally, an important feature of assertive sentences is that we can determine whether they are true or false, since in all cases they tell us about a characteristic, an affirmation or an action of the subject of which we can know if it is true or not:
The dog eats meat (True)
My cat wears a (fake) dress
Birds don't fly (false)
Herbivores don't eat meat (true)
