Misleading, univocal and analogous words
Words are a conventional sign that is used to refer to a meaning. However, not all words refer to a single concept. According to this criterion, words can be classified as follows:
Examples of unique words
The wordsunivocal are those whose sense of use is, on all occasions, completely identical. This particular case makes the words acquire the same condition as the concepts to which they refer.
In univocal words, the meaning of each one of them remains constant and is not subject to differences in individual interpretation, as it remains fixed and identical.
The following list includes some examples of words of the univocal type:
- Hydrogen

Examples of misleading words
The wordsequivocal are the antonym of the univocal since they refer to more than one meaning depending on the case. It is important here that there is no doubt that these are two different terms and also that you do not make the mistake of taking two words that are different as the same, since it would be establishing a false wrong word (this is what happens, for example, in the case of the words chance and causality).
It may also happen that the equivocal word is a formal definition on the one hand, and on the other a figurative sense of the same word. The following list shows some examples of misleading words, describing the different meanings they have:

Examples of analogous words
The analogous words They are those that enjoy a repertoire of senses, but all of them retain a certain unity. It is an intermediate point between univocal and equivocal, since they acquire a special meaning when compared with another term.
