Homophones words
The Homophones words They are those that, although they sound the same, are written differently and have different meanings. For example:
- threw out (verb "to throw") / done (verb "to do")
- opened (verb "to open") / there would be (verb "to have")
- He had (verb to have") / tube (long, hollow object)
Different homophony in different regions
It is important to note that there are words that are homophones in a certain region but not in others. This is because the pronunciation of some sounds in Spanish is different in certain countries.
For example, in Latin America there is no difference between the pronunciation of S and C in their soft sound (when it comes before E or I) and even Z. For example: deer (animal) / servant (slave) will be homophones in most Latin American countries, but in Spain they have different pronunciation and, therefore, they will not be homophones.
The same happens with the diagraph LL and Y. In countries like Argentina and Uruguay, the pronunciation of Wow (verb to have) and
fence (fencing) will be the same, while in other countries the difference will be noticed.![Homophones words](/f/8c3a5518cd003ad22a0b52049cca4d92.jpg)
