Although there are not many cases in which the I + vowel digraph is found at the beginning of the word, it is frequent in the Spanish language. For example: diaI read, Diego, ion, diurno.
This combination of vowels, as long as the I is unstressed, forms diphthong. That is, they are pronounced within the same syllable (for example: day - lec - to). When the I is accentuated (although it does not have an accent), hiatus, that is to say that the vowels will make up different syllables (for example: tí - a, rí - e).
