In Spanish, there are not many words that contain a vowel before the Y. This letter acts as a vowel when it appears isolated or at the end of a word, preceded by another vowel (for example: buhey, hhey).
In the other positions it represents a consonant, whose pronunciation varies in the different Spanish-speaking regions. For example: Ohuda, heyand, oops.
Although there are not many words that contain a vowel followed by the Y in the same syllable (for example: lhey), there are several words that contain these sequences but in different syllables (for example: and–Yec-tar).
