Triphthong

The triphthong is the succession of three vowels in the same syllable: closed vowel (u / i) + stressed open vowel (a / e / o) + closed vowel (u / i). For example: limpiauñas, actuis.

Almost all words with tripthong correspond to verb conjugations in the second person plural (you). For example: you contagiéis. It is a typical Spanish conjugation, which in Latin America is replaced by ‘you’, with the verb pronounced in an identical way to that of the third person plural. In the same example: you infect.

When the 'y' (and Greek) is pronounced as 'i', it fulfills the function of a vowel and can form tripthong. For example: Paraguay,Uruguay.
