The verses emerged in Spain in the 18th century, as a popular means of communication. Although it is common that the authors of the traditional verses are not known, some well-known coplas are Rafael de León, Manuel López Quiroga, and Antonio Quintero, Federico García Lorca.

Over the years, different verses have emerged. We can find verses about love, heartbreak, death, religion and everyday life.
Examples of short verses
- Short couplets of love
For me everything is beautiful
For me everything is the same
I am a lucky man
That always sings when waking up
I don't know what the wind says
I don't know what the sea says
More when I look at the horizon
I always start to cry
At sunset I sing
A praise to heaven
I don't have my rhyme anymore
And then I regret
My memory does not forget
More yes I can forgive
Every time i remember
My eyes start to cry
My whole being has loved
To the one who with contempt saw me
Although my regrets I have forgotten
My pain never stopped
All I ask is a wish
To hug me at night
And be it when I wake up my dream
So that my laughter can stay
Beyond the simple memory
My yearnings I have never lost
More my way I have changed
For the paths diverge
But my soul is still waiting
That summer love
That I have never forgotten
Today I would like to find it again
To make up the time of our delayed love
The more I think about the lost
The present is more alive
Well what was lost is already gone
And the present still beats in my being assiduously
The cicada sings and sings
And in her singing she tells me
Your pain and your grief
The more I can guess
Such regret
My hopeful love
It's already gone
Well over time I have learned
That the past is gone
When my heart feels
My mouth is silent
When my mind thinks
My lips speak
I am tired of waiting
May your love choose me as before
I prefer to forget more
All your wandering contempt
- Short children's songs
My neighbor the turtle
Eat and eat all the time and every day
Although it sometimes eats caterpillars
That are on top of the twigs
In the park we sing
With my friends the ants
We sing because we want
Take us on a trip to the Indies
- Short religious verses
The father's son has come
And for us her life gave
More is time to remember
So as not to feel that he died in vain
