The preposition "after" it is used as a synonym for "behind" or "after" and to indicate something that is being sought. For example: It hid after the bridge. / After cleaning the house, went for a walk to clear up.

This preposition is used to indicate repetition when placed between two nouns they must be the same. For example: I ate the same dish day after day. Not to be confused with adverb of place "behind". For example: He left town without looking back.
