The infinitive mode is the form of a verb that is not delimited by time (infinite means "without limits"). It is the grammatical form that gives the verb its name, and can end in -ar (to love), -er (fear) or -to go (depart).
When it appears within a sentence, the infinitive is often used as a verbose, that is, as a non-personal form of the verb that, like him participle and the gerund, does not specify gender, number or person.
