It is understood as a lyrical genre, when the objective of the poet is to express his own feelings in a subjective way, as long as they revolve around the self.
It is known as lyric poetry or lyric genre for being initially played by a lyre while the stanzas of poetry were recited, although there is also the lyric genre in prose.
The characteristics of the lyrical genre are:
- The author's feelings always predominate, whether they are emotions, happy or depressive.
- Generally, the poet or speaker expresses himself in the first or third person on behalf of himself or the character expressed.
- It is through three main attitudes that the poet expresses his feelings and ideas.
a) Declarative: In this it makes use of the first person and the third person and tends to narrate something or describe it.
b) Apotrophic: In this, someone is directed to an entity to whom he communicates his feeling or perception of the objective of his song (hymns and psalms).
c) Song: This is lyrical by definition and it is when the feeling is expressed through a song, it is one of the most widespread, if not the most widespread of the lyrical genre.
The lyrical genre seems to be very varied and can be directed to:
- People
- Animals
- Objects
- Places
As long as it expresses its interiority and feelings and can use figurative or metaphorical language, which expresses its message through words that must be interpreted.
The lyrical genre is an integral and very important part of poetry, but it can also exist in prose as long as it expresses the author's state of mind.
Thus, the poet or sterilizer, makes a story that will express everything that he wants to say but does not know. focus on what is around him but on the perception that he has personally (his opinion)
We can thus list a series of applications that are given to the lyrical genre:
- Eclogue (of Renaissance origin it deals with stories and stories of shepherds about their loves and affections)
- Elegy (focuses on the poem derived from the death of a loved one)
- Ode (it is a long type poem and deals with multiple themes)
- Pastorela (In this genre the poet defines himself as a gentleman and expresses his position and dismisses him in a mocking tone)
- Romance (This is a poetic composition and consists of a set of indefinite verses of the octosyllabic type where the pairs rhyme leaving the odd ones free)
- Sonnet (It is used in multiple themes and its origin is in Italy)
- Carol (This one is currently focused on December or Christmas themes and its composition is brief)
