Descriptive paragraphs
The descriptive paragraphs are those paragraphs in which detailed information is provided about an object, a person, an animal, a place, an idea, a concept, a feeling, among others. These paragraphs are found in descriptive texts, literary, scientists, journalistic, advertising, etc.
A paragraph is a unit of a text that is made up of one or more sentences, beginning with a capital letter and ending with a new paragraph. The texts are organized in such a way that each paragraph deals with a central theme. In the descriptive paragraphs the central theme is an element and the secondary ideas are the descriptions that are made of that element.
These paragraphs have the function of the reader to imagine what something is like or to know the characteristics of something. Therefore, it is necessary that detailed descriptions of the object are made. Generally, a description is made of the more general attributes and after the particular attributes.
To represent the characteristics, appearance or attributes of something, the following are used:
Examples of descriptive paragraphs
- The house where I grew up was huge. It had five bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, and three bathrooms. The entrance had a wooden door and led to a living room, where there were armchairs, a fireplace and giant windows, which allowed natural light to pass through. The dining room had a table for ten people. The kitchen had an eight-burner oven, a marble cooking island, furniture to store dishes and food, and a two-door refrigerator. The rooms were on the top floor and were very large and very bright. In addition, the house had a garden with a pool, where we spent all day in summer.
- Pablo's brother was a tall, blond, and very thin man. He worked in a tourist office and was very responsible in his work. He really liked doing sports, painting and going on excursions in nature. He lived in a very small apartment, which had a very large library, because he liked to read a lot.
- The top of the mountain was sublime; on the one hand it was beautiful, but on the other hand it was terrifying. It was a beautiful place, because you could see the peaks of the other snow-capped mountains, the valleys, the rivers and the lakes and it was a terrifying place, because it was immense, inhospitable and dangerous.
