The circumstantial complement It is the part of the sentence that complements the predicate and explains or establishes the circumstances in which the subject performs the action of the verb.
Sentences are composed of a subject, whose nucleus is the noun (animal, person or thing), and a predicate in which its nucleus, which is the verb, expresses what the subject does. The circumstantial complement explains how, where or when the action of the sentence happens.
The circumstantial complements can be formed by a single word, an adverb, or by a structure grammatical phrases such as noun, adverb, or adjectival phrases, or as a subordinate clause with function adverbial.
Types of circumstantial complements
There are several types of circumstantial complements, each of which explains some circumstance or way in which the action of the sentence happens:
Of time: these circumstantial complements refer to the location of the action in time, either at a specific or indeterminate moment. Answer the question when?:
- We will go to the square morning.
- Maybe we will return another day.
- I went to school In the past week.

Of purpose: they are the ones who say why something happens. Answer the question So that?:
- I brought a cake for dinner.

Of cause: They are those that explain the reason why something happens or is done. Answer the question Why?:
