The direct object or direct object receives the action of verb.
Each sentence should have a subject and a verb. To express a complete thought, a sentence will need a third part, a direct object.
The subject answer the questions: Who? or What? (Quien? or What?) before verb. The direct object or direct object answers the questions: Who? or what? (Whom? or What?) after verb. Generally the direct object it's a noun or pronoun.

- quien inherited? (Who inherited?): George Washington [subject / subject]
- que inherited? (What do I inherit?): Mount vernon [direct object / direct object]
A sentence can have a composite direct object.
- Mount Vernon had 8,000 acres and many buildings.
The direct object it is usually after the verb. Adverbs, adjectives, and even prepositional phrases can come between the verb and the direct object.
A lots of verbs are used without the direct object. Instead a verb it can be followed by an adverb or a prepositional phrase. Do not confuse an adverb with an object of preposition with a direct object.
