The declarative sentences, as its name indicates, they are a type of sentence whose function is to make a statement, that is, to affirm or deny something. In declarative sentences, the speaker informs us of a fact that he assumes as true or false. These sentences are also called declarative sentences; from the linguistic point of view, enunciate it means saying a statement that affirms or denies something.
In declarative sentences the indicative mood is used. This mode is one of the three verb modes that exist. The other two verb modes are the subjunctive mood and the imperative mood. Each of the verbal modes expresses a different attitude that the speaker has with respect to what he is saying.
In the case of indicative mood, the sentences express that something is a fact or a reality; it is an objective character mode. Unlike this, for example, in the subjective mode things are expressed that are not taken for granted, such as assumptions, wishes, etc. and in the imperative mood commands are expressed.
Let's look at some examples of declarative sentences:
- "The table does not this collection ”. In this sentence the verb to be It is conjugated in the present tense of the indicative mood. The verb expresses in its form that what is said is a fact or a reality for the issuer: the table, in effect, is in the state described in the sentence.
- "Me I did things well ”. In this declarative sentence the verb make It is conjugated in the past tense of the indicative mood. It is in the indicative mood and it is a declarative sentence because the statement informs of a reality that is said as a fact.
Refering to classification of declarative sentencesThese can be broadly divided into two main types: affirmative declarative sentences and negative declarative sentences, depending on whether the speaker affirms or denies what he wants to report. For example, in the previous sentences the first ("The table is not up") is a negative declarative sentence and the second ("I did things well") is an affirmative declarative sentence.
