Indirect Objects Example

The indirect objects comes before direct object. And says: to whom or for whom (for whom) the action of the verb.
A direct object generally follow the verb and receives the action of the verb. Some sentences have indirect objects. A indirect object does not receive the action of verb. Instead, it says to whom or for whom something is made.
- Carol made her brother to bookcase. I handed her the dictionary.
The indirect objects they are generally nouns or pronouns. Only the verbs that have direct objects they can have indirect objects. The indirect object comes between verb and the direct object.
A word used as indirect object can also be used as preposition object in a prepositional phrase starting with TO or FOR
- Carol made a bookcase for her brother. I handed the dictionary to her.
When used after prepositions, these words are not indirect objects. But they are objects of prepositions.
A verb can have a indirect composite object.
- Grandmother handed Dan and me the packages.
