The violence Domestic violence basically consists of the different forms of mistreating women in the sphere of personal or family relationships. This reality receives other names (in Spain the concept of gender violence or sometimes it is called sexist violence). In any case, it is a serious social problem, potentially affecting half of the population. population, women.
It is not a local problem or one that affects a number of countries, but is widespread throughout the world, although in some areas with greater intensity.
Causes and assessment
The analysts in sociological subjects try to explain the causes that originate this reality. In the first place, there is a cultural reason, according to which the woman must be subject to the man (which is normally known as machismo). The educational factor is also relevant, since sometimes students kids and the girls get a education different and these differences become apparent later when they are adults. Another element that intervenes in this phenomenon is the new social role of women, more economically independent and with a more open mind, a circumstance that may clash with the traditional approaches of some mens.
To the margin Of the causes that explain (and in no case justify) domestic violence, there is a generalized social response that radically rejects this type of behavior. Along these lines, in recent years various campaigns have been launched to combat and prevent domestic violence. In these awareness campaigns a series of recommendations are presented. The first and fundamental is that the woman denounces any act of violence and that she does not make the mistake of justifying it in any way. It is also advised to avoid a wrongly focused victimhood on the part of women (when they are abused they block themselves and think that they deserve it or that they have done something wrong). There is a third recommendation: the total rejection of any act of violence, that is, that there should not be any justification.
It should not be forgotten that in other times not too distant there was a certain understanding social and, in fact, there was talk of "crimes of passion", with which there was an implicit message understanding towards violence (the passion of the moment was understood as a possible legal defense).
