From the etymological point of view inbreeding means marriage within a group (the prefix endo means within and gamos means marriage). This original sense continues to be used and in most cultures inbreeding is avoided because it is considered immoral or is directly valued as a social taboo.
In relation to the animal world it is also possible to speak of inbreeding, which would be the crossing of the members of a race that is genetically isolated or that belongs to the same family. Biologically, inbreeding between members of the same family is normally a practice with consequences negative (genetic alterations occur more frequently and the offspring are more prone to diseases).
Beyond its etymological meaning and its meaning in the sphere of family or biology, inbreeding has another meaning: tendency of a human group to favor members of its own group and, consequently, not to accept individuals who are different in some sense. In this way, it could be said that all human groups tend towards inbreeding as a natural inclination. Let's think about
kids they have a habit of playing with each other every day. In this case, it is foreseeable that another child outside the group will have initial difficulties to integrate. The same is true of adults in other circumstances. That this happens with a certain frequency does not mean that it is morally desirable. In fact, closed groups are valued negatively, since they communicate values opposed to the integration and to I respect towards individuals who are different.Professional inbreeding
Each professional group has its codes, regulations and traditions. These elements of union and cohesion make it easy to have a certain inbreeding. It is a way to protect yourself and avoid competence from other related groups. At the same time, professional inbreeding is a mutual aid mechanism between members of a sector. It could be said that it is a kind of unwritten rule and that it could be summarized with the following principle: I help you so that you can help me if I ever need it. There are some expressions that indicate this custom (for example, among firefighters we must not step on the hose or this is between us).
Professional inbreeding is a work practice that is rejected from an ethical point of view, as it tends to protect individuals by the fact of being part of a group without taking into account the legitimacy from his conduct.
