The term dew is used to designate the phenomenon that takes place in nature when the humidity of the atmosphere it condenses in the early hours of the morning and materializes in the form of small drops on the leaves of plants and other surfaces. In addition to its usefulness and its specific function within the natural world, dew has always generated admiration in the human being since it represents one of the clear signs of the beginning of the new day and its delicacy is undoubtedly an element of great beauty.
In physical terms, dew is simply the moisture of the environment condensed in the form of drops on different surfaces such as the leaves of plants. This occurs mainly as a result of the marked decrease in the temperature that occurs at night and becomes visible in the dawn. The temperature of the surfaces covered with dew is the one that falls and thus, the humidity that is found in a gaseous state during the day materializes at night and early morning as small droplets. In many cases, if the temperature is low enough, the dew can turn to frost.
The dew takes place all year round, but on the days of summer in which the night temperature does not drop that much, it only tends to form on the surface of plants that are not exposed directly or excessively to the heat of the sun, such as grass, plants estate and some low-rise leaves. On the other hand, the dew is never sufficient to exceed a measurable amount of 0.8 mm per night, which does not allow it to be compared with the levels millimeters or effects that rain may have on the surface.
